The Gospel And Modern Man

I Corinthians 1:18-31

Evangelistic services and revivals have always been a unifying fact among God's people. It is often said that Fundamentalist are held together because of the things they are against. That is not true. They became unified against the godlessness of liberals and humanists.

Fundamentalists have always had an irrevocable core of Bible doctrine. Things taught in God's Word are non-negotiable. These non-negotiables are things that everybody must believe or perish in hell for eternity.

Fundamentalists practice separation from liberals. They have a great concern for winning people to Christ. God has a program concerning the Gospel. There is a constraint within God's program due to modern man's hostility and inability. The natural man isn't just passively unwilling to come to Christ; he is unable to come because of the hostility he holds for God.

There is a myth that man really does love God deep down, but just doesn't know how to express it. That is the opposite of the truth. God's Word tells us that there is no one who is good (Psalm 14:1), that none seek God of their free will (Romans 3:11). These unsaved people take pleasure in their sin.

The natural man hates God. His condition is hopeless within himself. He is headed for hell's death house where all rebels to God spend unending time in torment. The only salvation for this hostility, this hatred of God, is for the Lord to open their hearts (Acts 16:14). Pray that when the Gospel is preached hearts will be opened (Ephesians 2:1).

How do you reach the modern man? The Gospel addresses the greatest need of those who are without God and hell bound. The natural man is under the wrath of God. They who offend God incur His anger and are the object of His enmity.

Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross placate God's anger. The ransom has been paid; forgiveness is available. Now God can look on the sinner with love, peace, and harmony. The method of winning the modern man is one of proclamation, verbal confrontation. You must speak the truth in love. This will be highly offensive to the unsaved. But no other method will work. Those whose hearts are opened will receive Christ.

God and only God can bring someone to Christ. Do you make the Gospel clear? The clear truth of the Gospel is to believe in Jesus Christ and that God has raised Him from the dead. Make that clear to modern man. Faith rests in the power of God. Don't dilute what is clear and simple. Follow the clear-cut teaching of the Word of God and trust God for the increase.
