The John Studies Lesson Four
PERSONAL DISCOVERY
In Lesson 3, we learned that:
We can know the way of salvation.
Only CHRIST can satisfy the human heart.
Whosoever will, may come to Him.
To believe is to place one's entire confidence in Him for salvation.
1. After believing on Christ, must one wait to have eternal life? (5:24)
_______________________________________________________________________
Notice that the tense of the verb "to have" used in this verse
indicates that eternal life is the present possession of the believer. Therefore, the moment that a man believes
in Christ:
2. He is not … (3:18)
_______________________________________________________________________
3. He has … (3:36)
_______________________________________________________________________
4. He is passed … (5:24)
_______________________________________________________________________
We read in the Word of God: "These things have I written unto you that
believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life…" (1 John 5:13)
Note: Questions 5, 6 and 7 are based on 1 John 5:13.
5. To whom does God address these words?
_______________________________________________________________________
6. What verb is used to describe the degree of assurance that a believer should have concerning his present possession
of eternal life? (a) suppose; (b) hope; (c) know. (Write the correct answer.) _______________________________________________________________________
After having received the Lord Jesus, to be uncertain of our salvation is
not a sign of modesty; it is rather casting a reflection on the reliability of God's Word. Any true believer may
freely say with Paul: "…I know whom I have believed…" (2 Timothy 1:12)
7. What, then is the basis of the believer's assurance of eternal life? (a) his feelings; (b) the promises of men;
(c) the written Word of God ; (d) his good works; (e) church membership. (Write the correct expression.)
_______________________________________________________________________
8. Who is able to pluck out of Christ's hand those who have eternal life? (10:27-28)

12. Those who have received Jesus Christ are born: (a) of blood; (b) of the will of man; (c) of God? (1:12-13)
(Write the correct answer.)
_______________________________________________________________________
Although we were not "born again" through doing good works, nevertheless,
the possession of this new kind of life naturally produces great changes in us. Paul expressed it this way: "Therefore
if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new."
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
13. How did the man who was previously blind express his new outlook on life? (9:25)
