The Lessons (continued)
| Lesson Eight - You And Your New Responsibility |
Discipler's Notes |
| How to Explain to Others How They Can Be Saved Aren't you glad you're saved? Think back to the day you accepted Christ, What did it take for you to become saved? Obviously, salvation is from God, and He has told us in His Word how to be saved. But probably it took a person to explain God's Word to you and show you how to accept Christ. Now that you are saved you have the privilege responsibility to tell others good news! |
Review last week's memory verse, Matthew 6:21. Open with prayer praising the Lord for the privilege of working with the disciple through these lessons. Begin by reading together Romans 10:13-14. Note the necessity of a messenger. |
| The Crucial Need of a Gospel Witness 1 Who is the only way of salvation? (John 14:6, Acts 4:12) Christ is the only way to salvation. 2 What did Christ do to save us? (I Corinthians 15:3-4) Christ died for our sins... was buried... and rose again the third day 3 What threefold command did Christ give before ascending into heaven? (Matthew 28:19-20) He commanded us to make disciples of all nations. He commanded us to baptize believers. He commanded us to teach believers to be obedient to all His commands. The Courageous Confidence of a Gospel Witness 4 What promise was given to the disciples that would enable them to take the gospel to the entire world? (Matthew 28:20; Acts 1:8) Christ promised to be with them continually through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. 5 What does the Holy Spirit provide us to replace our fears? (11 Timothy 1:7) The Holy Spirit provides us with spiritual ability (power) The Holy Spirit provides us with divine love. The Holy Spirit provides us with discipline (a sound mind) 6 Who does God want to save? (II Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:1-4) God wants everyone living to be saved. 7 What is needed to win more people to Christ? (Matthew 9:36-38) Praying to the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest is the key to seeing more people saved. 8 What does the Bible say about a person who wins others to Christ? (Proverbs 11:30) A person who leads others to Christ is wise. 9 In Mark 4:1-20, Christ compared giving out the Word of God to sowing seed. What principles are found in the following verses? Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. 2 Corinthians 9:6 He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. |
Christianity is narrow - Christ is the way, the only
way to heaven! Explain that the word "gospel" means the good news concerning whatjcsus has done for us so that we might be saved (I Corinthians 15:3?4). These appear to be just two commands: teaching and baptizing. Yet, the two words for teach have different meanings. The first word teach means to make disciples (followers or learners of Jesus). This begins when a person is saved, so we must witness. The second word teaching simply means to teach them the commands of Christ (what the Bible says we should believe and how we should live). From a map in the back of your Bible, show the disciple the geographic areas mentioned in Acts 1.8. Notice that witnessing begins at home. In their generation (approximately 30 years), the 120 or so believers (Acts 1:15) fulfilled this command! We must do the same in our generation. Point out that we have the same command, yet we do not need to fear because we also have the same promise and power that the disciples had. Then should we not have a burden for everyone? Teach your disciple to be soul?conscious. "There has always been a labor problem, not a harvest problem!" Wouldn't it be a shame to buy an expensive gift and then not be able to give it to the person for whom it was bought? The gift of salvation was already bought with Jesus' shed blood (I Peter 1:18-19), but we must deliver the message so that others may receive the gift of eternal life. |
| The Clear Presentation of a Gospel Witness 10 What experience did Paul use to witness to others? (Acts 22:1-15) Paul related the testimony of his own conversion to Christ. 11 Share your salvation testimony with at least one lost person before you meet with your discipler. Record the results below. (Make sure you as a discipler have done the same!) 12 Do you want to witness more effectively for Christ? Your discipler will tell you about an exciting opportunity to learn how to be a better soulwinner! MEMORIZE Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. What will you do as a result of what you have learned from God's Word? (James 1:22-25) |
Your personal testimony is a great help in witnessing
to others. You can use the same pattern Paul used in his testimony: 1) Tell what your spiritual condition was before
you were saved 2) Tell how you were saved 3) Tell what your spiritual condition is now! Your disciple should have written his testimony in Lesson 1. Relate some of your experiences as a soulwinner and how God has blessed. Challenge the disciple to sign up for the next session of the Netcasters Soulwinning Course. Be willing to be his trainer! Tell him when the next session will begin. Set up a time next week for you and the disciple to go soulwinning. Remind the disciple that he will he receiving his Foundations for Christian Living certificate soon. Congratulate him! If you believe the disciple would benefit from Level II of discipleship, then give him the Table of Contents and the first lesson, and make an appointment for your next lesson. Complete a final Progress Report and submit it to the church office. |
